  Brett Gabbert passed for 227 yards and two long touchdowns and Miami (Ohio) defeated Bowling Green 34-7 on Tuesday night. The RedHawks (6-5) improved to 5-2 atop the East Division of the Mid-American Conference, keeping the pressure on Kent State, which is 4-2 and plays at Akron on Saturday. Miami and Kent State meet on Nov. 27 with a spot in the MAC title game at stake. After spotting Bowling Green a 7-0 lead on Terion Stewart's 62-yard run in the first quarter, the RedHawks cashed in on a blocked punt, Gabbert's 63-yard TD pass to Mac Hippenhammer, and a 1-yard run by Tyre Shelton for a 20-7 lead. On the first play of the third quarter, Gabbert connected with Jack Sorenson on an 83-yard catch-and-run score. Later in the third, Shelton added a 15-yard touchdown run for the 34-7 lead.   NOV 15 MAC EAST DIVISION OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Brett Gabbert, Miami, QB, Sophomore, St. Louis, Mo.,...Gabbert completed 21-of-28 passes for 351 yards and four touchdowns in a 45-18 win over Buffalo. The sophomore completed passes to seven different receivers and four different RedHawks scored receiving touchdowns.   Brett Gabbert threw four touchdown passes, firing a 58-yard scoring pass to Jack Sorenson on the RedHawks first offensive play, and Miami (OH) rolled to a 45-18 win over Buffalo on Tuesday night. Miami rebounded from a 35-33 upset loss to Ohio, which came into the game with just one win in eight games. Gabbert completed 21 of 28 passes for 351 yards and did not throw a turnover. Sorenson, who set a school record with 283 yards on 14 catches, caught five more for 112 yards.

The RedHawks (5-5, 4-2 Mid-America) forced a Buffalo fumble on its first offensive series and Gabbert wasted no time getting the RedHawks into the end zone with on a flea flicker to a wide-open Sorenson. Gabbert hit Mac Hippenhammer from 14-yards out to start the second quarter, then found Andrew Homer and Jalen Walker for touchdowns in the third quarter. Keyon Mozee carried 15 times for 67 yards and a touchdown and Kenny Tracy added five for 476 yards and a score. Kyle Vantrease was 11 of 20 for 151 yards for the Bulls (4-6, 2-4), but threw an interception and was forced into a fumble after running for two yards on Buffalo's first series.   Sterling Weatherford intercepted a Drew Plitt pass in the end zone with 60 seconds left and Miami (Ohio) held off Ball State 24-17 on Saturday. Miami had a chance at a two-possession lead with 2:10 remaining in the fourth quarter but Graham Nicholson missed a 51-yard field goal. The Cardinals drove down to the Miami 19 before Weatherford's interception sealed it. Brett Gabbert was 20-of-24 passing for 207 yards and a pair of touchdowns for Miami (4-4, 3-1 Mid-American Conference). Gabbert connected with Nate Muersch on a 6-yard TD, and the two-point conversion from Gabbert to Andrew Homer gave Miami seven-point lead in the fourth. Miami's defense forced two turnovers and held Ball State's offense to just 327 yards. Plitt was 22 of 34 for 227 yards with two touchdowns and an interception for Ball State (4-4, 2-2).   Brett Gabbert threw two touchdown passes and AJ Mayer threw for another, and Miami of Ohio swarmed FCS-member Long Island 42-7 on Saturday. Mayer got the Redhawks (1-2) going when he found Jack Sorenson on an 18-yard touchdown toss to finish the game-opening eight-play, 93-yard drive. Early in the second quarter, Camden Orth threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Derick Eugene to pull the Sharks (0-3) into a 7-7 tie. But Miami proceeded to establish control of the line of scrimmage and pulled away when Kevin Davis crashed in from three yards out with 5:22 remaining before halftime. Five minutes later, Gabbert threw a 16-yard scoring pass to Jalen Walker for a 21-7 lead. Miami outgained Long Island 523-216 in total yards.   When Miami opened the 2019 season at Iowa, Brett Gabbert became the first true freshman quarterback to open the season as the starter in Miami football history. The younger brother of NFL quarterback, Blaine Gabbert, started all 14 games in 2019, throwing for 2,411 yards and 11 touchdowns. For his efforts, he was named the Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year, just the third RedHawk in school history to accomplish this feat. Gabbert joins Ben Roethlisberger (2001) and Deland McCullough (1992) on this small list. Gabbert has started 16 games in his young Miami career. - Miami OH Football

  Last season, Indiana junior wide receiver Miles Marshall proved to himself he could play and produce at the Big Ten level. The 6-foot-4, 212-pounder had 19 catches for 290 yards and a touchdown as IU's third starting receiver with Ty Fryfogle and Whop Philyor. Marshall often alternated with Philyor playing the slot, while lining up outside as well. "I come into this year with a whole lot of confidence," Marshall said. "Knowing I can do it, knowing I can get even better than what I did last year." With Philyor gone and Fryfolge, the reigning Big Ten receiver of the year, back, Marshall now finds himself as the No. 2 receiver on IU's depth chart. But Marshall said he's pushing himself to be the best receiver on the field each day in practice.

"I hope he embraces being a No. 1 receiver because, ultimately, Ty made a bunch of plays, so Ty is not going to sneak up on anybody," IU receivers coach Grant Heard said. Heard expects many defenses to follow the blueprint of Ole Miss in the Outback Bowl, which was to take Fryfogle away and force IU's other receivers to step up and make plays. "We have to make sure we have players across from them that can make plays and feel like they are the first option on every route and have that mindset so when the ball comes to them they are not surprised," Heard said.   The Miami University football team was picked to finish third in the East Division in the 2021 Mid-American Conference preseason poll. The poll was conducted by 22 MAC media members and was announced at the league's annual media day in Detroit, Mich. at Ford Field on Tuesday morning. Kent State was picked to win the East with 112 points, followed by Ohio (96 points) and Miami (94 points). Finishing out the East were Buffalo (93 points), Akron (39 points) and Bowling Green (28 points).

In the West, Ball State was picked to defend its West crown with 114 points. Rounding out the division were Toledo (104 points), Western Michigan (103 points), Central Michigan (68 points), Eastern Michigan (44 points) and Northern Illinois (29 points). Miami is 25-9 it its last 34 MAC contests, best in the conference and won the 2019 MAC Championship. The RedHawks return 19 starters from its shortened 2020 season. - Miami OH Football

  A player primed to be a key piece of Kansas State's backfield in the years to come is transferring. Keyon Mozee, who appeared in nine of the Wildcats' 10 games during his freshman season in 2020, entered the transfer portal Thursday, a K-State spokesman confirmed to The Mercury. News of Mozee's transfer was first reported by 247Sports. Mozee, part of the same recruiting class as fellow running back sensation Deuce Vaughn, was one of just nine true freshman to play last season. He carried 11 times for 39 yards and hauled in two passes for 83 yards in a reserve role. Mozee also returned one kickoff for seven yards. - Manhattan Mercury

  Emmanuel Rugamba, a three-year member of the Miami University football team, signed a free agent contract with the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League. Rugamba, a transfer from Iowa, earned third-team All-MAC honors in both 2019 and 2020 and was the Mid-American Conference Championship Defensive Player of the Game his junior season. In 2019, the defensive back started 13 contests, finishing the year with 85 tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss, one interception and eight pass breakups. He had 11 tackles versus Central Michigan in the MAC Championship game and added nine tackles and his first career interception at Western Michigan. The following year Rugamba started all three games for the RedHawks in 2020. He had 11 tackles, a forced fumble and an interception. Rugamba had seven tackles in a win over Ball State and had a 62-yard interception return for a touchdown in a 35-7 win at Akron. - Hamilton Journal News

  Tommy Doyle, a five-year member of the Miami University football program, was selected in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. He was the 161st overall pick in this year's draft and is the last offensive lineman drafted from Miami since Brandon Brooks was taken in the third round of the 2012 Draft by the Houston Texans. Doyle is a two-time first-team All-MAC performer with expertise at both tackle positions. He started 16 games at left tackle during both the 2019 and 2020 seasons and has 14 starts at right tackle from 2017-18. He also earned Academic All-MAC in 2019 and 2020. In 2019, Doyle was part of an offensive line that allowed just 26 sacks in 14 games and as the RedHawks went on to win its first MAC Championship since 2010.   Redshirt junior receiver Miles Marshall has made steady progress in each of his first two active seasons at Indiana. This season, Marshall could take on an even more significant role in IU's offense. With senior Whop Philyor departed for the NFL draft, Marshall will enter the 2021 season as the second-most experienced receiver on the roster, behind just senior Ty Fryfogle. "I hope my role increases, but that's up to me," Marshall said following IU's ninth spring practice Tuesday. "I've got to keep working hard. I've got to keep getting faster. I've got to work on my hands. I've got to work on my releases, and I've got to become a better player to do the things I want to do. My goal is to end up in the NFL, so I've got a couple of more years left to achieve that goal." Marshall has posted 35 catches for 486 yards and two TDs in his career, including 19 catches for 290 yards and one TD last season. Marshall's highlight catch last year was a 68-yard grab on a fly route against Big Ten champion Ohio State.
